Robert Savio, MD, Chief of Pediatrics at ACMC, will manage the hospital's operations on race weekend (March 27-28) as the Physician Champion. "ACMC is honored to be the medical sponsor of this historic rebirth of the Oakland Marathon. We are excited to support the event as it is well in line with our health promotion vision for our vibrant, diverse
community. And, of course, we are the ideal provider of any emergency care for the event."

Wright Lassiter, ACMC Chief Executive Officer, and other members of its executive team are running in the marathon. Mr. Lassiter said: ACMC demonstrates a commitment and appreciation for healthy living and fitness as the Official medical provider for the Inaugural Oakland marathon. As a first-class medical center our participation is consistent in our support of this first-class event.

Runner safety is always the top priority, especially when you put on an event of this magnitude. From a logistics point of view the hospital's location is ideal so the whole medical team will be able to respond rapidly should they be needed, said Lee Corrigan, CSE President.

The twilight 5k race will start at 7 p.m. on March 27th for a sunset run around Oakland's famous Lake Merritt. The marathon and team relays will begin at 7:00 a.m. the following day, while the gun will later sound for the half marathon at 8:30 a.m.

The marathon course will begin on Broadway, race along Piedmont and College Avenues, pass by beautiful Lake Temescal and then tackle the hills of Montclair. After a breathtaking view of the Cities by the Bay, runners will journey through the vibrant neighborhoods of Fruitvale, Chinatown and historic Jack London Square. Then it's a final lap around sparkling Lake Merritt and a sprint to the finish at City Hall.
