Every year on November 11 we recognize and honor our veterans who bravely serve our country to protect our freedom and democracy. Whether we are at war or in a deadly pandemic we can count on our service men and women to keep us safe and free. I’m proud to say I served in the Navy from 1988 through 2001 and my health care career began at Naval Hospital Oakland. It was there that I had my first opportunity to lead a team and learn the responsibilities and obligations of servant leadership.
Here at the Alameda Health System, we are fortunate to work alongside active-duty members, reservists, and veterans, especially as we respond to a global pandemic. Their skills and knowledge enhance our response efforts and our ability to be coordinated and nimble. They are courageous, always at the ready, lead us in battle and do not backdown from threats like COVID-19.
As a way to recognize Veterans at AHS, our Public Affairs and Community Engagement department has prepared a photo slide show of the brave AHS staff who have served or are still serving in the US military.
In closing, I want to personally thank all AHS veterans for their service to this country, to our mission of Caring, Healing, Teaching and Serving All and for their bravery in the face of this pandemic. You are valued members of the AHS family and I am proud to serve alongside you. I salute you and wish you a happy and peaceful Veterans Day.
